Pirates place second in circuit title event

RR Girls Golf

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (Sept. 8, 2022) -- Rocky River placed second in Thursday's Lake Erie Girls Golf Association Championship Tournament at Springvale Golf Course. After going 7-0 in league matches over the last 4-5 weeks, the Pirates were finally bested by a LEGGA foe. That foe was Westlake, a team River beat 176-182 in a nine-hole home match on Aug. 16 but a Demons team that has now won back-to-back LEGGA titles after the Pirates had won five in a row from 2016-20.

The Maroon & White carded a four-man score of 389. The Pirates were led by Chloe Holton (37-48--85) and Mia Ginnetti (47-50--97). They perhaps could have used one more tally in the 90s.

Westlake fired a 380 to win by nine. Columbia posted a score of 404 to finish third. The field was comprised of six teams.

River's third and fourth scores were posted by Sophia Loparo (48-55--103) and Nora Sheridan (55-49--104). On a day when the inward nine confounded most players, Sheridan was the only Pirate to post a better score on the back side.

Holton's 85 stood out for its terrific start (37 on the front) and for its placement in the field as a whole: the Pirate junior earned tournament medalist honors for her 85.
