RR Girls Soccer

MEDINA, Ohio (Aug. 24, 2022) -- Rocky River notched a shutout victory in its 2022 Great Lakes Conference West Division opener, as the Pirates defeated Buckeye 8-0 Wednesday evening.

Sophia Sindelar -- who scored four goals in a Monday non-conference win over Brunswick -- thrice found twine and was one of seven Buccaneers to notch a point on the night. The Pirates scored four goals in the first half and four in the second in what was a physical tussle rife with yellow cards. River managed five goals over a 21-minute span beginning with a Sindelar header that beat the Buckeye goalkeeper in the 38th minute.

The Rocky River (2-0, 1-0 GLC West) onslaught included two goals on penalty kicks, five assisted goals, and one netfinder on a direct free kick. The Maroon & White have now scored 13 goals through two matches.

On Wednesday, Sindelar scored three goals, and Mackenzie Russell had two. Cara McKenna, Ava Patti, and Annika Mocho scored one each. Maeve Kelly and Russell each logged two assists; Grace Quaiser had one (a career first for the freshman).

The Pirates allowed just two shots on goal; 'keeper Caitlyn Rose stopped both.

River will now be off until Monday when it launches a busy week with a home match against St. Joseph. The Pirates are scheduled to play four games next week and six in a 10-day period ending Sept. 7.
