River rocks Raiders, runs record to 10-0

CLEVELAND (Sept. 1, 2022) -- Rocky River's win streak was not just an August thing. On Thursday, the Pirates opened September play with a match victory against the Columbia Raiders.

Upping its home mark to 5-0 and finishing 30-plus strokes clear of a foe for a sixth time this season, Rocky River knocked off Columbia 169-202 at Little Met Golf Course. Mia Ginnetti (3-over 37) and Chloe Holton (4-over 38) led the Pirates to victory in the second Lake Erie Girls Golf Association match between River and Columbia this season. The Pirates beat the Raiders 189-221 in a road match Aug. 23.

Ginnetti rebounded after a double-bogey 7 on the par-5 third hole. She played her final six holes in even-par. The 37 marked Ginnetti's best nine of the season; she has filed a 44-or-better in five straight matches.

The Pirates' No. 3 and 4 scorers Thursday were Nora Sheridan (46) and Julia Schmid (48).

The Raiders were led by Alyssa Beach, who carded a 47.

Rocky River has now won 10 straight matches to start the season. The Pirates (10-0, 6-0 LEGGA) are scheduled to be off until Sept. 6 when they play a road match against Bay (Sweetbriar Golf Club--Avon, Ohio).

THIRTYSOMETHING: 
The Maroon & White have now filed five sub-40 9-hole rounds this season. Mia Ginnetti and Chloe Holton have each had two such rounds; Julia Schmid has the other. Holton also fired a 39 on the inward nine of a 42-39--81 at Thunderbird Hills Golf Club Aug. 10.

RR JV A-OK: The Pirate junior varsity suffered its first defeat of the season Thursday against St. Joseph. But River rebounded with a 169-177 triumph over Westlake on Thursday (Meadowood Golf Course) and is now 8-1 on the season. Charlotte Roche led the team in scoring Thursday with a 40.
