River beats Bucks 3-0

RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 1, 2022) -- The Pirates ran their early-season record to 3-0 with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-21) win over Buckeye Thursday.

Rocky River struggled at times and finished the match hitting just .225, while piling up a dozen service errors and seven blocking miscues. But in the end, River continued its run of victories in straight sets: the Pirates have outscored foes nine games to none through their three matches this season.

Samantha Young paced the Pirates with 19 kills Thursday. Ella Brokaw added seven. The River hitters were put in place by the set work of Ella Duffy (13 assists) and Kylie Spies (18A). Young and Maggie Pfahl each registered 14 digs.

"This was not our best night, but we still got the job done," said coach Brittany Morris. "We know there are some things we can be doing better. Winning is obviously nice, but I want to see the good volleyball that I know our girls can play."

The Pirates are scheduled to return to action Tuesday with their Great Lakes Conference West Division opener. That one will be a match at North Olmsted.
