Rocky River registers T10 in big-field Edison invite

HURON, Ohio -- The Pirates competed in the Edison Invitational Wednesday, and Rocky River registered a fine top-third finish in the large-field event on a challenging 18 at Thunderbird Hills Golf Course.

The Maroon & White posted a team score of 369, which was seventh best in a field of 24 teams.

Junior Chloe Holton paced the River contingent with a tremendous 9-over 81 on the par-72, 4,721-yard track. Holton carded a 42 on the opening nine and blistering 37 on the inward side.

The Pirates' scoring four were Holton, sophomore Mia Ginnetti (44-46--90), sophomore Julia Schmid (46-52--98), and senior Sophia Loparo (45-55--100).

The event marked River's first stroke-play event of the season. Lexington, Perrysburg, and Avon Lake took first, second, and third, respectively. Perrysburg junior Sydney Deal posted a 10-under 62 to take medalist honors in the tournament hosted by Edison High School.

Rocky River is scheduled to open match play Thursday with a tri-match vs. North Olmsted and Wellington (Springvale Golf Course--North Olmsted, Ohio)
