Sindelar nets 4, Pirates beat Brunswick 5-2

RR Girls Soccer

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Aug. 22, 2012) -- It was a belated opening game day, but an impressive Pirate triumph was worth the wait. After having its season opener against Brunswick postponed due to inclement weather Saturday, Rocky River dealt the Blue Devils a 5-2 defeat in Monday's lid-lifter at Rocky River Stadium.

Sophomore Sophia Sindelar scored four goals in the contest. Sindelar and the Pirates opened a 3-0 lead by the 34th minute, and Rocky River (1-0) would lead by a multi-goal margin the rest of the way.

Junior Ava Patti was in on all four Sindelar goals; her first assist on the night marked her 100th career point. Patti also registered her own goal -- on a fine dribble, drive, and shot in the 51st minute -- which lifted River to a 4-1 lead at the time.

The Pirates were able to apply some field tilt due to the fine midfield play of senior Cara McKenna and junior McKenzie Russell. Junior Maeve Kelly added an assist on River's fifth and final netfinder. Sophomore Caitlyn Rose logged three saves in the match.

The 5-2 victory marked River's first win in a season opener since 2017. The Pirates' five goals marked their most in the history of their series against the Blue Devils. Rocky River is now 5-1-1 all-time against Brunswick.

The Maroon & White are slated to play at Buckeye on Wednesday evening.
