Pirates top Eagles 5-1

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 28, 2022) -- The Pirates did not exactly have their best shooting night of the season, but Rocky River prevailed nonetheless in Wednesday's Great Lakes Conference West Division tilt against North Olmsted. The Maroon & White got three goals in the opening half and two more late in the match to close out a 5-1 victory over the visiting Eagles

First-half goals by Sophia Sindelar, Mackenzie Russell, and Ava Patti vaulted River to a 3-0 lead by the 28th minute of action. North Olmsted got a goal late in the first half to get within two (3-1).

That 3-1 score would hang for more minutes than any other combination of electric digits on the Rocky River Stadium scoreboard. Rocky River (11-1-1, 4-0 GLC West) would tidy things up with a pair of insurance goals (Mia Carney, Maeve Kelly) in the final five minutes of play.

The Buccaneer offense did fizzle on a number of 1-on-1 looks and errant shots, but the Pirates still managed to tally 5-or-more goals in a match for a sixth time this season. River assists were notched by Cara McKenna (two), Annika Mocho, Patti (two), and Sindelar. A strong-passing Pirate squad now has 49 assists on 53 goals this season.

Rocky River has now won seven consecutive matches since tying Carmel (Ind.) on Sept. 3. The Pirates' next game is scheduled for Oct. 5 at Westlake.
