River sweeps tri-match, runs LEGGA mark to perfect 10-0

RR Girls Golf

AVON, Ohio (Sept. 21, 2022) -- Rocky River played its final conference match of the season Wednesday. And the Pirates foe -- the Westlake Demons -- suffered the same fate as the nine that came before them.

On Wednesday at Avon Oaks Country Club, Lake Erie Girls Golf Association member Westlake and non-conference-opponent Fairview were the victims of a Pirate twin killing. River downed Westlake and Fairview in a tri-match. The Pirates filed a team score of 189; those digits were well clear of the Demons (216) and Warriors (259). And with that, the Maroon & White remained undefeated in this swashbuckling autumn.

Rocky River's four scorers on the par-36, 2,424-yard outward nine at Avon Oaks were Chloe Holton (42), Mia Ginnetti (46), Julia Schmid (50), and Sophia Loparo (51). Holton's round included a fine par-par-par finish on holes 7-9, and her 42 was the lowest score in a 16-player field.

The Pirates (18-0, 10-0 LEGGA) do still have a couple non-conference tri-matches on their remaining schedule. The first of those is slated for Thursday, when the Double-R is scheduled to make the short trip west to take on Bay and St. Joseph at Westwood Country Club.

In a season that has thus far included 18 matches, peg Wednesday's tri-match as representing the 17th and 18th holes in a round. And the Pirates just signed a bogey-free card.
