RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 22, 2022) -- Rocky River closed out a three-win week -- a nine-wins-in-as-many-sets week -- with a Thursday home-court conquest over North Olmsted. The Pirates defeated the Eagles 3-0 (25-14,25-13,25-19).

The Double-R earned a regular-season sweep over the Eagles (3-13, 0-6 Great Lakes Conference West) with the win. The Pirates downed the Eagles in North Olmsted on Sept. 5. Rocky River (9-1, 5-1) also won that match 3-0; eight of the Pirates' nine wins this season are via the shutout. And three of those bagel sales have taken place this week: River beat North Royalton 3-0 Monday and Elyria Catholic 3-0 Tuesday.

"We really got on a roll on both sides of the serve game this week," said coach Brittany Morris, whose Pirates banged out 14 aces Tuesday and 12 more Thursday. "We passed a 2.4 for the night in our serve receive, so that and the aces were nice to see. We want to carry that forward into next week."

Rocky River had all of its dozen aces in Thursday's first two games; each were won by double-digit margins. The Pirates leveraged its frontcourt in set No. 1 (.375 attack percentage) and its backcourt in set No. 2 (17 digs against two errors).

River hit .289 in the third and .292 for the match. The latter figure marked the team's best single-match percentage of the season.

Individually, the Pirates got solid performances from Samantha Young (19 kills, .437 average), Maggie Pfahl (14 digs against three defensive errors), Kylie Spies (14 assists, five aces, seven digs against zero errors), Ella Duffy (17 assists, three aces), and Ella Brokaw (seven kills, two blocks).

For the week, Young had 49 kills while hitting a robust .347.

Rocky River's next match is slated for Tuesday at Bay.
