LAGRANGE, Ohio -- Senior Kate McKeown paced the Pirates with a medalist performance, as Rocky River placed third in the Lake Erie Girls' Golf Association Preview at Grayhawk Golf Club on Monday.

McKeown carded a 16-over 88 on the rain-soaked 6,240-yard layout in Lorain County. That figured as the top individual score in a field of 30-plus golfers. As a team, River posted a score of 410, placing behind Columbia (383) and Westlake (403), but ahead of Keystone (428), Bay (432), and North Olmsted (433).

The Pirates' four scoring players were McKeown, freshman Mia Ginetti (101), sophomore Haddie Holton (108), and freshman Julia Schmid (113).

The event at Grayhawk marked the opening of league play for the six-team circuit. The Pirates went 11-1 in 12 LEGGA matches last fall, and they are the five-time defending league champions.
