McKeown competes on district stage in career finale

Kate McKeown

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio -- Senior golfer Kate McKeown closed out her career by competing at a DI Northeast Ohio District tournament at Brookledge Golf Club Tuesday. [results]

McKeown carded a 50-48--98, placing 69th in a field of 96 golfers on the 5,397-yard, par-71 track on a breezy day in Cuyahoga Falls.

Four teams (Magnificat, Highland, Massillon Jackson, Roosevelt) and four at-large players (Madison Reemsnyder-GlenOak, Abby Blackburn-Hoover, Emily Liptak-Green, Brooklyn Millard -Aurora) earned trips to the DI state tournament which will be held at Ohio State University Gray Course Oct. 22-23. Highland's Isabella Goyette fired a 1-under 70 to earn medalist honors.

River's senior linkster won't be among the few headed to Columbus. But when McKeown drained her final putt as a Rocky River golfer, you could draw concentric circles radiating out from the cup. Ten yards out were her playing partners. Another 100 yards to another group. And so on. Ringing the top players in the area. And Kate McKeown was undeniably one of them.

That last putt wasn't missed. For a Pirate program that has made big strides in recent years, the young lady who sank it will be.
