Pirates notch No. 8 in streak, move on is district bracket

RR Girls' Soccer

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The winning streak is now eight. And it now straddles both regular- and postseason games, because the Pirates clocked a 9-0 district tournament win over Fairview Thursday.

Getting seven goals in the first period and two in the second, Rocky River routed the Warriors for a second time in eight days: River beat Fairview, 10-0, in a Great Lakes Conference game on Oct. 13. The Pirates (15-2) haven't lost or tied a game since Sept. 22. They are 8-0 over that span, outscoring foes, 38-0.

Scoring for the No. 4 (Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association) Pirates were Taylor Byall, Maeve Kelly, Sophia Murray, Sophia Sindelar (two), Vivian Brandt, Addie Harris, Mackenzie Russell, and Annika Mocho. Logging assists were Murray, Ava Patti, Harris (two), Sindelar, Mocho, and Chloe Eberlein.

With her five points Thursday, Sindelar has scored 11 points (five goals, assist) over River's last two matches.

Rocky River moves on in the DII Region 6 Elyria bracket only to face a foe from even closer to home. The Pirates will host the Lutheran West Longhorns Monday at 6 p.m. The winner of that match will move on to the district final.

CANNON FIRE ...

(GR)EIGHT STUFF:
All eight wins in the current River win streak are of the shutout variety. The eight straight clean sheets mark the program's most since 2010 when the Pirates rattled off nine consecutive shutouts (Sept. 1-29).

HOME, SWEET HOME: With Thursday's victory, Rocky River is 20-1-1 over its last 22 matches on home turf.
