Pirates take 7th, 5th in muddy Saturday action

RR Cross Country

CORTLAND, Ohio -- Rocky River's boys' and girls' teams competed in the Legends Cross Country Meet Saturday. [results: boys | girls]

The Pirate boys took seventh place in a field of 28 varsity teams in the event hosted by Maplewood High School and held on a muddy course at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. Rocky River posted a team score of 247; its five scoring runs were logged by
Luke Dorenkott (24th), Greg Ganor (40th), Majid Abuaun (50th), Ruairi Zuercher (65th), and Isaac Linville (68th). St. Ignatius (69 points) edged St. Eward (75) for the team title.  

The River girls posted a 169 to take fifth in a field of 23 varsity squads. Rocky River's five top runs were carded by Samantha Coleman (second), Katie Stirm (33rd), Carolyn Wanosik (41st), Allie Dewey (44th), and Grace Lavelle (49th). Coleman crossed the wire in 20:13.9, finishing third overall and second among runners earning team points. Pine-Richland (72 points) bested Shaker Heights (74) for the girls' title.
