Pirates defused by Rockets, 2-0

RR Girls' Soccer

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Pirates had their seven-game win streak snapped in a key Wednesday night Great Lakes Conference West Division match against the Bay Rockets. Rocky River was shut out, 2-0, in a match that marked the Pirates' first in league play since Sept. 26, 2018 (2-1 loss to Holy Name).

The Rockets (6-1-2, 2-0 GLC West) got first-half goals from Lily Frey (29th minute) and Tessa Knapp (38th). Goalkeeper Rory Marcis defended that 2-0 lead over the fifth-ranked (Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association) Pirates with multiple diving saves in the second stanza.

The regular-season shutout loss marked the Pirates' first since Oct. 7, 2019 (2-0 to Midview). The setback marked River's first in a home match since that same date. Since then, the Detroit Road Buccaneers had been 20-0-1 in 21 matches at Rocky River Stadium.

The Pirates (7-2, 1-1) are scheduled to play a non-conference match at Brunswick Saturday.
