Pirate girls take 4th in Strongsville meet

RR Girls' Cross Country

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio -- The Rocky River girls clocked a fourth-place finish in the Strongsville Cross Country Invitational Saturday. [Results]

The Pirates got big performances from senior Samantha Coleman (fifth place, 18:43.55) and sophomore Brianna Chaves (15th, 19:36.55), as they posted a team score of 134. Only Brunswick (109), Woodridge (105), and Perrysburg (65) fared better in a field of 22 teams.

Carolyn Wanosik, Katie Stirm, and Allie Dewey rounded out River's top five. All carded top-60 finishes in the event hosted by Strongsville High School. The Pirates improved two places from the same meet a year ago.

The River boys' team was idle.

YOUNG BUCS:
Rocky River took seventh in the open division. Freshman Rosie Murray took 12th to lead the Double-R JV squad.

GOING FOURTH: With her fifth-place finish Saturday, three-time state qualifier Samantha Coleman has earned four top-10 finishes this fall.
