Seniors key home win over Eagles

Kate McKeown (L), Rachel Baird

CLEVELAND -- The Pirates eked out a hard-fought home-course victory, as Rocky River defeated North Olmsted, 192-196, Monday at Little Met Golf Course.

Seniors Kate McKeown and Rachel Baird carded key scores in an event that marked Senior Day for the Rocky River program. McKeown and freshman Mia Ginnetti posted 13-over 47s on the valley track along the Rocky River. Baird notched a 48.

And every click south of 50 would be needed against the Eagles (8-7, 6-4 Lake Erie Girls Golf Association) in the warm-weather league match. Aryana Edgell fired a 44 to lead North Olmsted. The Eagles' team sheet was comprised of a 44, 50, and two 51s.

River's No. 4 was sophomore Chloe Holton, who carded a 50.

The win for the Pirates (5-6, 4-6) was keyed by an all-around performance on No. 5. Rocky River's top four scores on the par-3 were summed as just 15 strokes. North Olmsted's total on No. 5 was 19. Rachel Baird carded the lone par on that pivotal hole.

"Our seniors came through today," said head coach Jeff Hammond. "Kate and Rachel have been great for this program for four years."
