Colts outpace Pirates, 11-2, as season comes to an end for River nine

RR Baseball

LODI, Ohio -- Rocky River was ousted by Cloverleaf in the second round of North Ridgeville District play in  the DII Ohio Baseball Tournament. The host Colts won the game, 11-2, with strong pitching shutting the Pirates down from innings 3-through-7.

River scored its runs on a two-run double by Charlie Russell in the second inning. Russell (2-for-3), Braedon Spies (1-for-3, double), and Dillon Bandi (1-for-2, walk) were the Pirates top batsmen on an afternoon that saw the team struggle with clutch hitting and some bad-luck "at-'em" balls after the second.

"Its a tough way to go out," said head coach Darryl Sanders. "They made more plays than we did today. I'm proud of our effort, and I'm excited about the future of this program. We lose some talent on both sides of the ball, but we have a good core of guys who got valuable experience this season. In 2022, we'll look to improve on what we do and go deeper into the playoffs."
