Superintendent’s Message
The 2021 calendar year is quickly coming to a close and the Rocky River City School District continues to celebrate the exceptional accomplishments of our students and staff. Please take a few minutes to read the November e-Newsletter and enjoy all of the wonderful highlights from around the district.
Over the last month, the district concluded the first quarter of the school year, enjoyed Halloween parades, celebrated the return of the RRHS Drama Club to the stage with its Fall Production of All Together Now, witnessed the excitement on the faces of third and fourth graders as they received dictionaries and a chapter book from the Rotary Club of Lakewood/Rocky River and cheered on our fall athletics teams who competed at the state tournament.
The COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children ages 5-11. For parents/guardians interested in getting their child vaccinated, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) recommends that appointments be made with local health departments, pediatricians, family physicians, community health centers or pharmacists. Vaccination clinics are not expected to be made available in the district due to staffing shortages from providers.
You can find an available COVID-19 vaccine and make an appointment for your child here or by calling 1-833-4-ASKODH. The ODH has provided an FAQ document for parents and guardians about the COVID-19 vaccine for children and it can be viewed here.
As children ages 5-11 are now able to receive the vaccine, the district is planning to move to optional masking for K-12 students beginning with the start of the second semester on January 24, 2022. Preschool students will continue to mask. This will allow all parents/guardians who choose to have their child receive the vaccine ample time to reach the full five weeks to be considered fully vaccinated.
Masks will still be required on school buses based on the CDC mandate and students considered to be a close contact to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 must wear a mask as required by the Mask to Stay, Test to Play guidance.
In this season of gratitude, I want to conclude by thanking the entire Rocky River community – our hard- working students and staff, supportive parents and guardians and all of our team members – for collaborating with us to provide a quality educational and co-curricular experience for all students.
