River lines up 5th straight in win over Lakewood

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River won its fifth consecutive match, as the Pirates defeated the Lakewood Rangers, 5-1, in a Great Lakes Conference crossover battle Wednesday.

Scoring for the Pirates in the 2021 Battle of the Bridge were Maeve Kelly, Ava Patti, Annika Mocho, Sophia Sindelar, and Mackenzie Russell. After allowing a game-tying goal which leveled the score at 1-1 in the opening half -- the first tally allowed by the Pirates since Aug. 25, Rocky River (5-1) closed out the contest with four unanswered goals.

ON DECK:
River is scheduled to open GLC West Division play on Saturday when the Pirates travel to Elyria for a match against the Elyria Catholic Panthers.

YOUNG BUCS: The Double-R junior varsity upped its season mark to 5-0 with an 8-0 rout of the Rangers Wednesday. Olivia Byall and Brigid McBride scored two goals each in the home-field triumph. Katie Nupp, Bella Hunt, Lexi Hammermeister, and Caroline Kysela also scored.
