Miller's netfinder lifts River to 1-0 win

RR Girls' Soccer

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River Girls’ Soccer extended its unbeaten streak by defeating Holy Name, 1-0, on Saturday.

The Pirates (5-1-1, 3-0-1 Great Lakes Conference) broke free from a scoreless tangle with the Green Wave in the 68th minute when senior Samantha Miller tallied her third goal of the season. With the victory, Rocky River is now 5-0-1 over its last six matches. The Pirates have outscored foes, 21-1, over those six games.

River got solid play from Lizzie Hamker and Taylor Byall throughout Saturday’s one-goal affair. Byall banged a would-be second River goal off a goalpost as part of her afternoon.

Miller’s goal included assists from Maya Patti and Cecilia Wischmeier.

The 1-0 final score perhaps did not tell the story of field tilt and pressure applied. The Pirates were credited with out-shooting Holy Name, 34-0.

The Maroon & White are slated to be on the road for their next match. That contest will be at Elyria Catholic on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
