COCHOCTON, Ohio – Rocky River blanked Zanesville, 9-0, at the Riverview Labor Day Showcase in Eastern Ohio on Monday.

The Pirates landed three goals in the opening half and six more in the second, as the team planted their most goals in a single match since Sept. 19, 2018 (nine goals vs. Elyria Catholic).

“This was a great opportunity for our girls to work together and create opportunities to score,” said Head Coach Patrick Hopkins.

And score they did.

Goal scorers for River included Addie Harris, Maya Patti (three), Alexandra Pike, Anna Sobol, Sam Miller, Riley Wasserman and Sophia Murray.

Rocky River (2-1) has now outscored two foes, 15-0, since the team’s opening-night loss at Lake Catholic on Aug. 26. River’s 16 goals through three games mark the team’s most in a season-opening-three-game-stretch since 2013 when the Pirates tallied 21 goals through their opening trio of games. The 2013 Pirates would go on to score 107 more goals (128 total, 5.6 per game) as part of a state championship season.

With Monday’s loss, Zanesville (0-5-1) remains winless on the young 2019 season.

Rocky River will return to Great Lakes Conference play on Wednesday evening when they host the Buckeye Bucks (Rocky River Stadium, 7 p.m.).
