River rifles in three in prevailing over Patriots

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Pirates garnered their fourth shutout victory of the season and continued a season-opening unbeaten streak, as Rocky River defeated Valley Forge, 3-0, on Saturday.
 
The Maroon & White scored once in the opening half and twice in the second in the Great Lakes Conference tilt at Rocky River Stadium. The Detroit Road Buccaneers controlled the match throughout, possessing the ball, snuffing out Valley Forge advances, and dominating on the shot count.
 
Rocky River (4-0-2, 2-0-1 GLC) got one goal apiece from Ava Patti (fourth of the season), Taylor Byall (first), and Mackenzie Russell (second). Patti has now scored a team-high four goals this season.
 
The No. 4-ranked Pirates (Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association) are slated to continue their 2020 GLC slate next week with challenging matches against the Bay Rockets (Monday) and Holy Name Green Wave (Saturday). Both contests will be played on the road.

HOME PORT ADVANTAGE: 
Rocky River is 3-0-1 at Rocky River Stadium in 2020. Dating back to last season, the Pirates are 7-0-1 over their last eight matches at home. Six of those seven victories have been of the shutout variety.

HIGH FIVE: Taylor Byall’s Saturday twine-finder marked the fifth of her career. Byall has logged a goal and an assist this season; the now-junior forward registered four goals and an assist in earning the program’s Most Improved Player Award a year ago.
