Pirates looking to take the fifth

Rocky River Girls' Golf

LaGRANGE, Ohio – The four-time defending champions of the Lake Erie Girls Golf Association are off to a fine start search of a fifth straight circuit crown.

Behind a 47 posted by defending league medalist Kate McKeown, the Rocky River Pirates tallied a four-man score of 209. That total bested Midview (226) and Keystone (238) in a LEGGA tri-match on the inward nine at Grey Hawk Golf Club. Buoyed by pars on her third and ninth holes, McKeown was 11-over on the 2,558-yard, par-36 track. The returning junior was backed up on the River score sheet by junior Rachel Baird (51), senior Lexi Aguilar (55), and senior Sarah Farling (56).

The Pirates (2-0, 2-0 LEGGA) will host a conference match against Columbia on Tuesday. River went 8-0 in league play a year ago. The Pirates and Raiders finished first and second, respectively, in the LEGGA Tournament (Sept. 18).
