River repels Raiders, 188-219

RR Girls' Golf

CLEVELAND -- Rocky River remained undefeated on the young season by picking up a Lake Erie Girls Golf Association victory over Columbia on Tuesday.

Playing on friendly turf on the west bank of the Rocky River, the Pirates carded a four-man score of 188. That figure eclipsed the Raiders (219) by 31 strokes, and the win marks River's third straight to start the season.

Two-year letterwinner and last year's leading scorer (47.0) Kate McKeown paced the Pirates by posting a 44 over over Little Met Golf Course. Lexi Aguilar and Rachel Baird added 47s. Two 50s -- take your pick -- rounded out the team score. They were logged by Lauren Solecki and Ciara Grieve.

Rocky River (3-0, 2-0 LEGGA) Head Coach Rick Haag noted the solid scores but also that his squad still shows an ability to grow. "We want to work on shaving off some strokes at the bookends of each hole," said Haag. "We'll put in some work off the tee and on the green and look to keep improving."

PAR(S) FOR THE COURSE: Senior Lauren Solecki had three pars in her Tuesday round at Little Met. She joined Lexi Aguilar in registering multi-par rounds on the 96-year-old valley track.

ON DECK: The Maroon & White are slated to return to action on Monday (versus Avon Lake at Sweetbriar Golf Club). The Pirates are scheduled to return to Rocky River Reservation (Mastick Woods Golf Course) for a home match on Tuesday.
