RR Girls' Golf

AVON, Ohio – On the back half of a of a home-and-home against the Bay Rockets, Rocky River was dealt its first Lake Erie Girls Golf Association loss since 2017, as Bay defeated River, 191-199, on Wednesday.

Kate McKeown (47), Ciara Grieve (48), Lexi Aguilar (49) and Lauren Solecki (55) were River’s four counting scorers, but that bunch was undercut by two strokes per man over the par-36, 2,426-yard back nine at Sweetbriar Golf Club.

The loss marked the Pirates’ first in LEGGA play since 2017. Rocky River (4-2, 3-1 LEGGA) had been 19-0 in circuit action since the start of the 2018 season.

“We struggled with our putting and in other areas of the short game today,” said Head Coach Rick Haag. “Those strokes add up more than they do anywhere else on the course.”

Haag and the Pirates are slated to continue their season with a home match against Keystone on Tuesday. The Double-R match against the Wildcats will be another league affair, so the Riverside Raiders will have an opportunity to restart a new streak in LEGGA play.

They have their work cut out for them – the last one was impressive.
