Pirates fall in road test against Demons

RR Boys' Soccer

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- Rocky River was felled, 3-1, in a well played West Side battle against Westlake on Monday evening.

The Demons (5-4) snapped a two-game losing streak in the series with their neighbors from across Clague Road.

Westlake led, 2-0, through halftime. Senior Chris Fry's second career goal brought the Pirates (4-3) within one during the second stanza, but the Demons closed out the contest at Read Stadium with an insurance goal.

Goalkeeper Will DeClerck was credited with six saves in what marked his first career start.

With its victory Monday, Westlake now holds a 27-15-4 advantage in the all-time series with River.

Rocky River is slated to return to Great Lakes Conference play with a Wednesday match (7 p.m.) at Elyria Catholic.
