Pirates sail past Valley Forge, 3-0

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River defeated Valley Forge, 3-0, on Thursday.

The home-court victory for the Pirates (7-5, 7-4 Great Lakes Conference) came on Senior Night for the River program. Five senior players -- Austoria Miller, Molly Sheridan, Emma Liszeski, Jaidyn Cruz, and Emily Slyman -- were honored in a pre-match ceremony. All five figured prominently in the 25-10, 25-5, 25-13 victory.

Miller carved out a line that included seven kills, 11 digs (against no errors), and four aces. Sheridan logged five kills and a .363 attack percentage. Liszeski had a team-high 19 digs while serving up three aces. Cruz garnered five errorless digs. And Slyman registered 27 assists, two kills and three digs.

The Pirates were charged with just two dig errors -- and only 26 total errors -- against the overmatched Patriots. Up front, Miller, Sheridan, Madie Shoaf, and Paige Waite led the way to River posting a .247 attack percentage. Shoaf collected seven kills against just one hitting error.

The Maroon & White have now won two straight matches in shutout fashion; River defeated Parma, 3-0, on Tuesday.
