Pirates enjoy all-River racket day against Magnificat

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River dropped a hard-fought 5-0 match to Magnificat on Saturday.

The Blue Streaks swept the Pirates (5-13) in three singles and two doubles matches. The all-city contest at Magnificat High School was the the top end of a program-wide neighborhood tussle. In Varsity-B action, the Maroon & White earned a 3-2 victory. Maire Kelly (second singles), Julia Potts/Maria Potts (first doubles), and Lainey Heuler/Evie Kelley (second doubles) were victorious for the Pirates. River also picked up a 3-2 triumph in junior varsity play. In that match, the Racket Raiders got wins in third singles (Lucy Kolonick), first doubles (Gigi Konrad/Matilda Green), and second doubles (Alison Ryland/Sabrina Bucaro).

For the JV squad, Saturday's action closed out Rocky River's 2020 season. The Pirates ended the fall on a three-match win streak.

"There was some great tennis out there on both sides," said Head Coach JoHanna Forman, "and it was great to see all the support by teammates and their families."
