RR Girls' XC

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- On Saturday, the Rocky River boys' team traveled east for an evening event event in Painesville, and the girls' squad traveled south to Strongsville.

The Pirate boys notched a fourth-place finish among 15 DI squads in the Riverside High School-hosted Light-Up-the-Night Invitational, a race beginning and ending at Riverside Stadium. Bolstered by a trio of top-25 finishes, Rocky River posted a team score of 134. [Results]

Senior Luke Kishna was River's top man -- he sped over the 5k course to log a time of 16.59.55. Kishna finished in 13th place, some seven seconds ahead of sophomore Greg Ganor (18th) and senior Seth Williams (23rd).

Paced by four top-10 finishes, the Mentor Cardinals (48 points) won the Saturday evening event.

On the girls' side, Rocky River placed sixth in a field of 13 teams in the Strongsville Invitational. The Pirates scored 145 points, a total tamped down by the fine performances of freshman Carolyn Wanosik (11th with a time of 20:09), freshman Brianna Chaves (14th), and junior Samantha Coleman (21st). JV BOYS: In Painesville, the River JV squad earned a runner-up finish in a field of eight. Sophomore Alex Kovacs (fifth) and freshman Ruairi Zuercher (sixth) led the Pirate effort.

FLEET-FOOTED FROSH: Carolyn Wanosik has logged impressive back-to-back improvements on her 5k time since carding a 20:25 finish at the Mentor Cardinal Classic on Sept. 5. On Sept. 19 at the Ashland Invitational, Wanosick crossed the wire in 20:14. The River rookie shaved another five seconds off that time with her 20:09 on Saturday.
