River conquers Comets, 2-1

RR Girls' Soccer

SOLON, Ohio -- Rocky River earned a 2-1 nonconference victory at Solon on Wednesday.

A game-winning goal by Ava Patti in the 78th minute vaulted the Pirates ahead of the Comets. The road victory keeps the fifth-ranked team in the state (DII Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association) unbeaten on the year. The Pirates (8-0-2) have won five straight matches, and the marker Solon netted Wednesday is the lone goal River has allowed in that streak.

Rocky River struck first Wednesday when Keira Vesy netted her fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Solon countered with a free-kick netfinder in the 39th minute.

The contest remained knotted at one-a-side until Patti's goal -- assisted by Addie Harris -- in the 78th minute. Harris' assist marked her team-leading fifth of the season.

The Maroon & White are slated to play two more nonconference matches in a busy week. The Pirates are schedule to host Laurel on Friday (6 p.m.) and Columbus Watterson on Saturday.
