River routs Rangers, reels in Riverwood Cup

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Pirates netted four goals while keeping things tidy at the other end in a 4-0 victory over the Rangers, as Rocky River defeated Lakewood in Wednesday night Great Lakes Conference action.

In what marked the first GLC meeting between River and new-league-member Lakewood, the Pirates got one goal in the opening half and three more in a dominant second stanza. The win for the Sons of Blackbeard snapped an eight-match winning streak for Lakewood (8-2, 5-2 GLC).

Rocky River (6-4, 5-2) got goals from Charlie Russell, Chase DeClerck, Hogan Kern, and Nate Keeling, as they returned serve after a 1-0 Lakewood win in last year's Riverwood Cup rivalry game. With Wednesday's victory at Rocky River Stadium, the Pirates are now 3-2-1 in the Cup series. River is 18-5-3 all-time against Lakewood.

Jack Maher assisted on the DeClerck goal which marked the senior's ninth netfinder over the team's last five games.
