River storms Normandy for GLC road win

PARMA, Ohio -- The Pirates earned a Great Lakes Conference road win, as Rocky River downed Normandy, 7-4, on Thursday.

Rocky River (9-15, 8-10 GLC) was held off the scoreboard in the first three innings, but the Sons of Blackbeard reeled in four runs in the fourth, then added two in the sixth and one in the seventh in support of starter Gavin O'Brien. For the game, River scored seven runs on nine hits. The Pirate attack was paced by Anthony Ferchill (3-for-4, two runs batted in), Braedon Spies (2-for-3, double, RBI), and Jacob Florentine (2-for-3). Florentine also provided standout defensive work in center field.

O'Brien scattered seven hits in allowing four runs (two earned). He struck out five while walking just one.

On Monday, the Pirates will travel to Brookside for a North Ridgeville District game in the D-II OHSAA State Tournament.
