Bay rocks River, 12-1

RR Baseball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Rockets shot down the Pirates in the back half of this week's Great Lakes Conference home-and-home between the westside rivals. After Rocky River had won Monday's series opener, 3-1, Bay came back with a 12-1 win on Tuesday.

The host Pirates scored their lone run in the fifth inning, the final stanza in the run-rule conquest for the Rockets, who had scored two runs in the opening inning, six in the fourth, and four more in the top of the fifth. Jacob Florentine and Anthony Ferchill combined to turn a couple singles into that marker for the Maroon & White. But it would be too little too late, and the base knocks by Florentine and Ferchill would account for half of River's hits in the contest.

Bay took advantage of 13 walks, plating seven of those free passes along the way. Junior Connor Bozak and sophomore Evan Bottone both tripled in the Bay fifth.

The contest between the Rockets (11-6, 8-3 GLC) and Pirates (6-7, 5-5) was played on a warm, breezy afternoon at Rocky River Field.
