Panthers prevail over Pirates in well-armed GLC battle

RR Baseball

ELYRIA, Ohio -- Rocky River dropped a 4-0 decision to Elyria Catholic in Great Lakes Conference action on Wednesday.

Starting pitcher Ethan White admirably dueled his mound opposite in green and white, but the Pirates were held to just three hits in the contest and none were cobbled together with any complementary walks or other base runners. The Panthers broke free for three runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, collecting five hits over those frames.

White allowed those four runs over five innings. Braedon Spies pitched a scoreless sixth.

Rocky River (8-15, 7-10 GLC) is scheduled to close out its regular season Thursday at Normandy (5:30 p.m. start time). On Monday, the Pirates will travel to Brookside for a North Ridgeville District game in the D-II OHSAA State Tournament.
