Junior jets to solid finish at state meet

Samantha Coleman

OBETZ, Ohio – Samantha Coleman clocked a 51st-place finish among 176 athletes in the Ohio DI Girls’ Cross Country Championships on Saturday. [Results]

Coleman posted a time of 19:18.4 in the 5K Buckeye State title race held at Fortress Obetz. The three-time state qualifier logged mile split times of 5:42.7 and 12:04.6 on what was a warm, sunny day in Central Ohio. The event capped off a tremendous season for the River junior. Last month Coleman earned her third consecutive individual Great Lakes Conference title; she was the Pirates’ lead runner in Rocky River carding a team championship.

Coleman has now registered three top-100 finishes in the state meet. The decorated River runner placed 93rd in the state meet as a freshman and 36th a year ago as a sophomore.

Saturday’s event was won by the Centerville Elks who posted a team score of 128. The Elks had the meet’s top two finishers (Mia Robillard, Emma Bucher) which was key in edging Hilliard Davidson (138).
