Duel exhaust: Wave scores late and often as Pirates fall at Holy Name

RR Baseball

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Pirates were undone by a slew of ground balls with eyes in a Monday loss to Holy Name. After starting pitcher Ethan White had worked the River nine into a pitcher's duel through four frames, the host Green Wave came through with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and then three in the sixth to defeat the Pirates, 7-0.

The late-game success for the home side was built on a string of dribblers and tappers, a line-hugging double, and a hit batsman. Perhaps the bigger problem for Rocky River was the even lighter hitting in the topsides of each inning. The Pirates (5-5, 4-3 Great Lakes Conference) were held to just three hits in the chilled conference road affair.
