River catches big pitching effort, prevails over Patriots

Joey Pike

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Rocky River bounced back from a hard-fought extra-inning loss to Valley Forge, as the Pirates defeated the Patriots, 6-2, on Wednesday.

After a marvelous comeback effort fizzled on Tuesday, River rode the strong left arm of Tommy Capka on Wednesday. Capka went the route and whiffed seven batters, and his strong work gave the Pirate offense room to work and play with a lead.

Rocky River (4-4, 3-3 Great Lakes Conference) got two hits apiece from Dillon Bandi (2-for-4, double), Michael DiFranco (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), and Braedon Spies (2-for-4, two stolen bases).

The Sons of Blackbeard are slated to continue their busy week with a Thursday GLC home game against Holy Name.
