Brian Smith - 2014 Teacher of the Year


Brian Smith, the 2014 Rocky River City School District Teacher of the Year has taught in the District for only 3 years, yet has changed many lives.

Adjectives used to describe Brian include: dedicated, knowledgeable, approachable, generous, caring, very funny, professional, and a team player.

Goldwood principal Carol Rosiak describes Brian as “one who exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond for his students, staff, parents and the District. His genuine care for his students is exemplary and promotes a culture of acceptance and value for all in the building. He is conscientious and is a respected teacher leader among his colleagues and administrators. This teacher is role model and an asset to the Rocky River School District.”

Brian has been awarded the Educator Achievement Award from the Educational Service Center as well as being highly acclaimed in the special education sector. He is on the board at Connecting for Kids and provides support and advocacy for special needs students.

Brian is a Rocky River resident and is married and has a young son and a daughter. His son attends Rocky River City Schools.

Brian has a Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design and a Master Degree in Special Education. 

In his teaching assignment as a Rocky River City Schools Preschool teacher, Brian has helped to transform the peer model preschool program into a highly sought after environment.
