21 fun salute: Pirates net 21 in home-opening rout of Avon LAke

RR Girls Lacrosse

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (March 21, 2024) -- Rocky River remained unbeaten on the young season by earning a 21-2 victory over Avon Lake Thursday. Six Pirates registered multiple goals in the cold-weather Northern Ohio Lacrosse League rout which marked the Double-R's home opener.

Sophomore attacker Elle Mocho had a three-point (two goals, one assist) first period, helping propel the Pirates to a 7-1 lead through that first frame. Mocho, who scored 30 points (20G, 10A) in her 2023 freshman season, went on to file a 4-and-1 game Thursday evening.

River's early dominance on the draw, with senior defender Mackenzie Russell toting the lemon away from most scrums, helped the Striped Buccaneers maintain a heavy possession edge in building a 15-1 lead by halftime. The Maroon & White had the game in running-clock territory more-than-five minutes before halftime arrived.

The second half had the Tisler sisters -- senior Alexis and sophomore Addie -- dizzying Shoregal defenders around the Avon Lake cage. The Tislers combined for five points in the clock-sprint second half. For the game, Alexis Tisler filed 3G and 3A; Addie Tisler netted 3G.

Rocky River's other top scorers in the game were Kaitlyn Byrne (3G, 1A), Reagan Connelly (2G), Daisy Thompson (2G, 1A), and Emma Yezbak (2G, 1A).

Russell and Kylie Spies were sharp on defense and helped turn what few Avon Lake possessions there were into shorter ones than the Shoregals had intended.

The Pirates (3-0, 2-0 NOLL) have now netted 20 goals in back-to-back meetings against Avon Lake (2-1, 1-1). Since 2013, River is 9-0 against the Shoregals.

On Saturday, the Pirates will be back at home for another NOLL contest. The Buccaneers will host Brunswick in a 12:30 p.m. tilt at Rocky River Stadium.
