Pirates score early and often in rout at Perrysburg

PERRYSBURG, Ohio (April 6, 2024) -- On Saturday, the Striped Buccaneers returned to action after a 10-day hiatus. And the Maroon & White picked up right where they left off, bludgeoning a foe by a double-digit margin.

Rocky River did so at Perrysburg, playing for the first time since March 26 and cruising to a 21-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The 20-goal margin marked River's widest in a game since May 17 (22-2 vs. Toledo St. Ursula), and it fits into a now-three-game stretch that has seen the Pirates outscore opponents 60-6.

Bolting to an 11-0 lead through the first quarter and never looking back, Rocky River (5-0) dominated the non-conference affair. The Pirates outshot their hosts 39-8, allowed just one successful clear, and were a plus-13 (5-18) in the turnover exchange. (River's five turnovers marked the program's fewest in a single game since May 21, 2022 -- four vs. Ottawa Hills.)

Elle Mocho and Addie Tisler stuffed the stat sheet with six goals each. Grace DeWitt registered three goals and reached 100 career points in the contest, and Kaitlyn Byrne ledgered a five-point game with two goals and three assists. Through five games, the Double-R has now averaged 16.2 goals per game.

Mocho was credited with two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Kylie Spies logged five ground balls.

Perrysburg didn't score until the 5:50-mark of the fourth.

The Maroon & White will return to Northern Ohio Lacrosse League play when they host Westlake in a Tuesday 7 p.m. game at Rocky River Stadium.

HAT RACK:
Saturday's three hat tricks marked Rocky River's ninth, 10th, and 11th three-goal (or more) performances this season. The hat tricks through five games: Alexis Tisler-three, Grace DeWitt-three, Elle Mocho-two, Addie Tisler-two, Kaitlyn Byrne-one.

GRACE-FUL: When Grace DeWitt filed an assist on an Addie Tisler goal at 6:50 of the third, the point marked the 100th of DeWitt's career. DeWitt, who scored 50G last spring as a sophomore, has registered 80G and 21A in her career. She has scored 3G in each of her last three games this season.
