River falls in 3-1 battle versus Demons

RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Oct. 3, 2023) -- Rocky River dropped a 3-1 decision to Westlake, as the Pirates had their four-match win streak snapped in Wednesday-night Great Lakes Conference West Division action.

River won the opening set in the battle on home hardwood, but the Buccaneers were then edged in a 50-point second game. The home side would score just 27 points the rest of the way. The Demons (11-7, 3-4 GLC West) prevailed 17-25, 26-24, 25-11, 25-16 in earning a season split with Rocky River.

The loss marked the Pirates' first since Sept. 19.

Rocky River (12-5, 4-3) hit .133 for the match and was tagged with 10 service and 31 dig errors.

Lyniah Campbell-Cass (16 digs) and Maggue Pfahl (26 digs against 3 errors) paced the River effort.

"It was not our night," said coach Brittany Hensley. "We got off to a great start in game 1, but then things started getting away from us unfortunately. We need to learn from this and prepare to get better."
