Pirates file 2-1 weekend as they head into bust stretch of games

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 20, 2024) -- Rocky River went 2-1 over three weekend contests. The Pirates clocked a 12-8 triumph over St. Joseph Friday (12-8) and a doubleheader split against Brookside Saturday (16-7, 13-17).

In the Saturday opener at Brookside, River leveraged 15 hits and five Cardinal errors in plating their season-high in runs. Rylie Quaiser homered in that game, and the Pirates registered three other extra-base hits.

In Friday's contest against the Jaguars, Rocky River (6-7) was outhit 14-9, but the Buccaneers found their way to 17 walks. They earned the victory in that contest which was a pitcher's duel turned slugfest late. Sixteen of that game's 18 runs were scored after the fourth inning.

Over the three games, Carly Ewing went 8-of-12 at the plate. Ewing had a double and seven runs batted in while ticking her season OPS upward to .775. Maggie Heigle and Reagan Kane went 6-for-11 and 6-for-12, respectively. As a team, River hit .353 (36-of-102), and eight players had multiple RBIs.

In the circle, Kane provided 16-1/3 of the Pirates' 20 innings pitched. She allowed 16 runs (nine earned) while walking 10 and whiffing 20.

The weekend games opened a stretch that has the Pirates scheduled to play 13 games in 15 days. That stretch is slated to continue with a Great Lakes Conference crossover game against Buckeye Tuesday. That contest at Pirate Field is slated to get underway at 5 p.m.
