PARMA, Ohio (Sept. 26, 2023) -- Rocky River earned its first 3-0 sweep of the month, as the Pirates repelled the Normandy Invaders by scores of 25-22, 25-15, 25-19 Tuesday.

On the attack, River hit .219 for the match, eclipsing its season hitting mark (.175) by 44 points. On the back line, the Pirates registered 77 digs against just 20 errors.

The front-court effort was deep, as five players logged six-or-more kills in what marked Rocky River's fourth straight win over Normandy (all by 3-0 margins). Lyniah Campbell-Cass (10 kills) and Maeve Sheridan (6K, .500 average) were River's top producers at the net. Avery LaPorte added 6K and two total blocks.

Kylie Spies set up that Buccaneer front court with 20 assists. Spies also banged out 23 serves with just one error on the evening; she recorded three aces.

Maggie Pfahl once again led the back-line brigade. Pfahl, who went into the contest leading the Pirates at 5.7 digs per set, had 18 digs against just one miscue. Kiley McCourt had 16 digs and Lilly Cupp had 11 with no errors.

The match between Rocky River (11-4) and Normandy (8-7) was a Great Lakes Conference crossover affair. Since the GLC was formed in 2015, the Pirates are now 14-2 against the Invaders.

Prior to the victory at the Invader Dome, River's last 3-0 win had been on Aug. 31 (vs. Fairview).


CANNON FIRE ...

LCC A-OK FOR RRHS: Sophomore Lyniah Campbell-Cass has now registered double-digit kill totals in three matches this season. Since Aug. 31, Campbell-Cass has logged a solid 2.6 kills per set.

YOUNG BUCS: Fellow sophomore Lilly Cupp recorded her fine 11-dig line in what marked her first varsity match. ... Sophomore Kiley McCourt's 16 digs marked a career high. Freshman Maeve Sheridan's six kills were also a career best.

ON DECK: Rocky River will get back to GLC West Division play with a road match at North Olmsted Thursday. Beginning Thursday, four of River's last five regular-season matches will be GLC West contests.
