AVON LAKE, Ohio (Sept. 16, 2023) -- Rocky River went 2-2 across four matches at the Fourth Annual Avon Lake Invitational held Friday-Saturday.

The Pirates registered victories over Strongsville (2-0: 25-11, 25-9) and Vermillion (2-0: 25-16, 25-9). They lost to host Avon Lake (2-0: 25-21, 25-19) and North Allegheny-Pa. (2-0: 25-23, 25-16).

Rocky River (8-3) hi .416 and .392 in its two wins. It hit .190 and .137 in its two losses.

For the weekend, senior libero Maggie Pfahl was named to the event's all-tournament team. Pfahl logged 54 digs against just 10 errors over the four matches.

Samantha Young hit .358 while banging out 29 kills.

For the weekend, Rocky River placed fifth in a field of nine teams.

The Pirates are slated to return to Great Lakes Conference West Division play Tuesday. River will host Elyria Catholic at Rocky River Gymnasium.
