Corsairs plunder Bucks, Pats to close out GLC regular season

RR Boys Golf

VALLEY CITY, Ohio (Sept. 12, 2023) -- The Swinging Corsairs shut the door on regular-season Great Lakes Conference play Tuesday. Slammed it shut more like it, in a dominant twin-win performance against Buckeye and Valley Forge at Coppertop Golf Club.

Logging its fourth straight match score under 155, Rocky River fired a four-man 154 in defeating the Bucks 154-187 and the Patriots 154-185. Luke Dietrich led the way with a two-birdie 35 on the par-35, 2,975-yard outward nine at Coppertop. Albeit over a sparse schedule, Dietrich has averaged a tidy 71.6 since Aug. 29.

Nick Tianello (39), Jack Hurt (40), and Caden Lawrence (40) comprised the balance of River's scoring. As a team, the Double-R hit 19-of-36 greens in regulation (52.8%) while averaging 15.5 putts per man.

With the dual victories, the Pirates (9-1, 9-1 GLC) have made it through the conference season with just one loss (Sept. 7 vs. Westlake). The circuit will reconvene at the Great Lakes Conference Championship Tournament Sept. 18 (Grey Hawk Golf Club, LaGrange).

The Sons of Blackbeard will compete in the Saturday-Sunday Midwest Prep Classic at the Country Club of Meadville in Meadville, Pa.
