FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (Sept. 19, 2023) -- Rocky River prevailed in a tight non-conference match against North Royalton Tuesday. Nick Tianello's 1-under 35 on the 3,329-yard, par-36 outward nine at Big Met Golf Course helped the Pirates (10-1) get by the Bears 151-165.

Continuing a birdie barrage from the previous day when he beat par five times in the Great Lakes Conference Tournament, Tianello carded three birdies in the match. Continuing a stretch of fine putting, he dropped two birdie efforts of 20-feet-plus. On the par-5 seventh, Tianello two-putted after reaching the green in two. He finished with 14 putts in a round that saw him hit 5-of-9 greens in regulation. The 2023 GLC Player of the Year now owns a stroke average of 76.2 since Sept. 7.

River's top scorer for the season is Luke Dietrich, who fired a 37 Tuesday. Dietrich clocked his lone birdie of the day on the 440-yard, par-4 ninth when he rolled in a downhill 10-footer. He hit six greens and logged 16 putts.

The Pirates' No. 3 score was a 39 filed by Caden Lawrence. The 3-over tally marked his third sub-40 nine-hole score of the season. River's No. 4 -- a 4-over 40 -- was registered by both Dan Capka and Jack Petrus.

"It’s been a good couple of days to get some momentum going," said coach David Hendrickson. "The timing is good with a big tournament this weekend and then what's on the horizon in October."

The upcoming weekend event is a tournament at Grey Hawk Golf Club hosted by St. Edward High School.
