MEADVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2023) -- The Swinging Corsairs took their swings on the road over the weekend. Rocky River competed in the Saturday-Sunday Midwest Prep Classic at the Country Club of Meadville. Led by a fourth-place finish by senior Luke Dietrich, the Pirates posted a first-division finish, placing eighth in a field of 21 teams.

River posted a 315-330--645 over the two days the 6,292-yard, par-72 layout in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Dietrich's portion of that 645 was represented by a pair of tidy 73s. He placed fourth in a field of 111 players over the two days.

The Pirates' day-1 score was comprised of Deitrich (37-36--73), Nick Tianello (40-38--78), Dan Capka (39-41--80), and Jack Petrus (41-43--84). Day 2 some some regression, mostly cause by trouble on the greens. River's scores Sunday were logged by Dietrich (39-34--73), Tianello (43-40--83), Jack Hurt (42-43--85), and Capka (45-44--89). The Corsairs averaged 36 putts per man Sunday.

Dietrich's fourth-place finish was built on the strength of six birdies and a solid weekend avoiding too many hiccup bogeys. The senior has averaged a fine 72.2 since August 29, and his team-best season average is now at 74.7. Dietrich was tabbed as an all-tournament performer in Meadville.

Buffalo Canisius won the tournament with a two-day total of 592. Jack Tebeau of St. Francis High School earned medalist honors with a 71-68--139 performance at the event hosted by Erie Cathedral Prep (Pa.).

Rocky River will play in the Great Lakes Conference Tournament at Grey Hawk Golf Club in LaGrange Monday.
