ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 19, 2023) -- Rocky River fell to Elyria Catholic in a key Great Lakes Conference West Division match Tuesday at Rocky River Gymnasium. The Panthers downed the Pirates 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15), handing them their second division loss this season.

The Elyria defense aided in holding the Pirates to their second-lowest attack percentage of the season, a .106 mark. River was also tagged with an uncharacteristic nine service errors in what marked its first loss on home hardwood since Oct. 9, 2021 (2-1 loss to Findlay).

With the setback, Rocky River now has two West Division losses and finds itself behind Bay (0) and EC (1) in that department.

Samantha Young (22 kills, two aces, 12 digs, two total blocks), Ella Brokaw (8K, 4D, 2B), Kylie Spies (22 assists, 11D), and Maggie Pfahl (23D) were River's top performers Tuesday.

Tuesday's tilt marked Rocky River's first in a string of three in a row at home. The Pirates (8-4, 2-2 GLC West) will continue that home stand with a Thursday GLC crossover match against Lakewood.
