RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 3, 2023) -- The Pirates earned their first victory of the young season, as Rocky River defeated Fairview 18-8 Monday.

Rocky River banged out 13 hits and benefited from four Warriors miscues in the Great Lakes Conference West Division affair. The Maroon & White scored seven runs in each of the last two innings of the five-inning run-rule contest.

Colleen Meese (five earned runs in three innings) and Ava Mae DeMooy (2 ER in 2 IP) combined for River's effort in the circle. Meese, DeMooy, and the Pirates were trailing 6-4 when the host River Nine came to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Three of Rocky River's first four batters that inning reached on walks. The Pirates sent 11 batters to the plate and cycled in seven runs.

The Double-R had a similar stanza in the fifth, and that closed out the victory. Emma Vladescu reached base three times (two walks, hit by pitch) over the 14 runs-in-two-innings barrage. For the game, Rocky River registered 10 walks.

Sienna DeMooy (double), Meese (double), Maddie Sollars (triple), and Maggie Heigle (triple) all collected extra-base hits in the home-field triumph. Meese went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in; Heigle went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Heigle also logged three of River's six stolen bases.

The Pirates went 10-of-18 with runners in scoring position.
