Double-R downs Solon 16-1

RR Girls Lacrosse

SOLON, Ohio (March 23, 2023) -- Rocky River logged a second rout in a row, as the Pirates hurtled past the Solon Comets 16-1 Thursday.

Following up on an 18-8 win at Brunswick Tuesday, River scored nine goals before yielding Solon's lone marker of the contest, a netfinder with 39 seconds remaining in the opening half. The Pirates held the Comets scoreless over the first 24 minutes of play and would top that with a shutout second half, as they registered their largest margin of victory since May 18 (18-0 win over Copley).

Senior Lucy Kolonick (four goals) and juniors Kaitlyn Byrne (3G) and Daisy Thompson (3G) combined to crank out 10 of River's scores in the Northern Ohio Lacrosse League tilt. The Striped Buccaneers also got multi-point games from Olivia Konopka (2G) and Mackenzie Russell (goal, assist).

ON DECK
: Rocky River (3-0, 2-0 NOLL) will continue its season with another NOLL battle Tuesday. River will host Mentor in a game slated for a 7 p.m. ET opening draw.

BOSSES WITH CROSSES: Freshman Elle Mocho scored the Pirates' second goal Thursday. Mocho, Byrne, and Thompson have scored goals in all three games this season. ... Junior Ella Hopkins scored a second-half goal assisted by sophomore Bode McDougal. The score marked the first career points for both players. ... Kaityln Byrne is closing in on 100 career points. With her three goals Thursday, the junior attacker has now tallied 72 goals and 20 assists (92 points) in her career.
